GiveIndia has developed a set of listing criteria, which are used to determine whether or not an organisation is eligible to be listed on our site. These include the Credibility Alliance Norms. The Credibility Alliance norms are gradually becoming an "industry standard" for the non-profit sector in India. These require NGOs to make several disclosures about their Board members, governance and financials and also document certain policies to institutionalise good practices.
The Credibility Alliance is a national consortium of non-profit organizations, set up in 2004 to establish a consensus-driven set of "credibility norms" for the voluntary sector in India.
GiveIndia Listing Process This note outlines the due diligence process we follow for listing NGOs. We have been refining this process periodically, ever since we started in April 2000 and have strived to make the process 100 percent transparent and objective. Stage I This is when an NGO approaches us or we make the first contact. We send the NGO our listing criteria and a sample MoU. We inform them of our listing and annual renewal donations. The idea is to share upfront what they have to comply with before the process starts. If the NGO believes it fulfils our requirements, it needs to fill the Listing Request form and email it to us. The NGO may or may not fulfil all our listing criteria. While some criteria (like being a year old, registered entity or having a functioning Board) are mandatory to begin the listing process, others (like policies) can be drafted, with our guidance, during the listing process itself. Stage II Once we receive the Listing Request from the NGO, we send them the Stage II forms. These consist of:
Section A - Organisational Information Form
Section B - Donation Options Form Section C - Financial Information Form
Section D - Additional Information Form (for NGOs with FCRA) Section E - Board Certification Form
Section F- Norms (Annual Report disclosures and financials requirements)
The NGO fills out form A, B, C, D, E & F, and sends them to us as soft copies only. They need to send us a scanned copy of the Trust deed or MOA.
Once the NGO has emailed us the SOFT copies of A, B, C, D, E & F they send us a Mumbai payable cheque or Demand Draft for Rs. 9000/- in favour of GiveIndia. Once we have received this cheque, we begin processing the application. The balance listing donation of Rs.5000 needs to be sent when the NGO sign our MoUs We examine the forms and email the NGO with any clarifications we might have. Once all clarifications are done, we prepare dummy feedback reports which the NGO needs to fill. This helps the NGO to understand our donor reporting format. After our feedback team approves of the dummy reports we ask the NGO to send us hard copies of the forms and documents for the appraisals. Appraisals We audit all the forms and documents submitted by the NGO. The NGO submits an undertaking in case they do not fulfil our annual report requirements. They give a similar undertaking in case Notes to Accounts are not part of their audited financials. Selection letter and MoU After the appraisals are complete, we send the NGO the selection letter and MoUs for signature by their authorized signatory. The MoUs and a copy of the selection letter are sent back to us. The MoUs are then signed by our authorized signatories and the NGO goes live on our website.
