Success Story

Mamata is from a poor family. Afflicted by polio as a 6 month baby;she was operated at 6 years. Mamata is from a poor family. Afflicted by polio as a 6 month baby;she was operated at 6 years. She did not get adequate post surgical treatment or any mobility aids. Father is paralyzed in both legs and her brother is a labourer. She completed SSLC in a special school for disabled. She believed people with disability cannot do anything worthwhile in life. She was feeling helpless and hopeless.

Mamata was identified and assessed in a career guidance workshop organized by APD for people with disability and was selected for two years? Industrial Training Course at APD Campus in Bangalore. The APD environment and counseling motivated her. She was given calipers and regular therapy at APD which improved her mobility. Her boarding & lodging in Bangalore is taken care of by APD.

Mamata actively pursues her training course and participates in co-curricular activities. She is a good singer and won the first prize in a singing competition organized by Inner Wheel Club. Mamata aspires to do higher education after completion of this training course. She wants to work and support her family. Mamata is now cheerful, focused and confident to face life.
