Success Story

The women belonging to lower strata of Village Dawthu, Hulasganj, Jehanabad in Bihar are very poor The women belonging to lower strata of Village Dawthu, Hulasganj, Jehanabad in Bihar are very poor and dependant on their male counter parts for their petty expenses. At the time of need they were approaching local money lenders for loan who were charging very high rate. It made them remain in debt for long duration. They are unorganized having very low literacy rate, also deprived of participation in decision making process and unskilled.

Our workers contacted those women and motivated them for group formation (Tulsi Mahila Mandal, Tulsipur) and saving little amount at regular intervals. They were informed about the importance of forming a Group, saving money, opening account, bank linkages and other related benefits. The effort of Jan Samadhan resulted in the formation of a strong group of women. All the 15 groups members were imparted training in Group Dynamics.

Now, the members of SHGs have opened their accounts in the Bank, sitting and saving funds regularly and in receipt of financial assistance from Bank for starting Income Generation activities in food processing and preparation like Sattu-baked and crushed gram, Papad, Badi-dehydrated lentil paste, Bindi, Embroidery and scented sticks. Their income level has improved and their life style changed. They are sending their wards to School, giving nutritious food and proper clothing. They have come out from the clutches of money lenders as such. Their average income ranges from Rs. 800 to 1200 per month per member.
