Success Story

Gollapalem is one of the most remote and island coastal village in Krishna district. Gollapalem is one of the most remote and island coastal village in Krishna district. The families living in this village belong to backward class and depend upon agricultural labor and fishing. The geographical location of the village is such that it is frequently affected by cyclones and floods. This leads to school absenteeism, school dropout rate, child labor problems. In these villages school dropout rate is high between Grade 5 and 7. Bommidi saraswathi is an intelligent student from the fishing community. She is studying in Grade 5. Her parents were unable to support the educational needs and asked her to discontinue her education further.

This case was identified by the Asha Kiran volunteer with the help of the school committee. We provided 2 sets of uniforms, note books and footwear to Saraswathi.

Saraswathi is continuing her school education. Her parents also feel happy that her educational needs are met and they are sending her daughter to the school regularly. The children in the village who belong to dalit community are now confident and continuing their education up to high school level. Due to our interventions in these villages, the incidents of school absenteeism and dropout rate is reduced. The parents and the community understand the need and importance of the children education and our special focus on girl child education.
