Success Story

18 month-old Shajahan was admitted to Government children hospital, ICH, Egmore on 21/10/10.

18 month-old Shajahan was admitted to Government children hospital, ICH, Egmore on 21/10/10.He was diagnosed to have a neurological problem - Guillian Barre Syndrome which is treatable by a life saving drug IVIG (Intra venous Immunoglobulin). Though the treatment is free in Government hospital, IVIG was not available. If the treatment was not given the child would develop progressive respiratory paralysis and die. Basha, father of Shajahan working as agricultural coolie in a village earning Rs.4, 000/month, was unable to afford the treatment because Cost of IVIG per 5grams (at discounted rates) was Rs. 7500.

We are in touch with a dealer who supplies the drug at approx 35% subsidy on an emergency basis and on credit. Since the doctors at the hospital are free to call Ekam anytime a child required this, we were able to help Shajahan by providing 2 units of Intra Venous Immunoglobulin on the 24th of Oct, 2010.
Child is better and recovering after starting the treatment. He is out of ventilator support.
