Success Story

Kaja Pettai is a slum in Trichy district, where children run around the slums during the day time; women wash the clothes and dishes in front of their houses. Most of the youth are school drop outs. The adults in the community are less caring about their children.

New Life started a children home in this slum. Children were admitted to the home. Home in Kajapettai is situated in Pasumadam, Kajapettai, Ponmalai Zone, Trichirappalli Corporation, Tamilnadu. There are 35 children in this home and getting quality education with a trained teacher. The teacher helps to improve the children in Gross motor skill, fine motor skill, Language skill, Cognitive skill, Sensory skill, Emotional and aesthetic skill, social skill and personal skills of the children. The skills of the children were also assessed quarterly. Beyond that we are providing noon meal, health education through a specially appointed health worker. We are ensuring the childhood of the children in this home. The donation was used to buy vessels and furnitures required for the home like chairs, racks for storing the children’s clothes, benches for writing, grinder, etc.

In three years the slum has changed to a considerable extent. 49 children were admitted to the early learning centers of which 24 have moved to primary school. 10 drop outs were re-admitted to schools, 2 youth have been given vocational training and 126 women have been trained so far.
