Success Story

Eswari belongs to an infected family.

Eswari belongs to an infected family. Her father deserted their family and finally succumbed due to the impact of HIV/AIDS. Lakshmi, the widowed and infected mother could not meet the ends of the family with her two daughters Eswari (11) and Vennila (9). The meager income earned by Lakshmi by doing coolie work was not enough. Eswari dropped out from school because of this.

Lakshmi was identified as an infected woman during our intervention and her two daughters were referred to ICTC and luckily they are negative. But Lakshmi is not affording to spend for the education of Eswari. Since Eswari was aspiring to continue her education, we brought her to our Abhaya Students Shelter and mainstreamed in the Government schools nearby.
Eswari is one among the happiest children in our home along with other children forgetting her family situation. She continues her study and performs well in her education. She feels hale and healthy with the care and food provided by the home. She dreams of becoming a nurse to help her mother as well as the society.
