Success Story

Lavanya has severe Cerebral Palsy. Lavanya has severe Cerebral Palsy. She was not able to move about, not able to communicate and perform any basic daily living activities. Her parents gave up hope and were totally helpless.

APD Community Based Rehabilitation workers did detailed assessment and need analysis and identified her disability as her parents were unaware of her nature of disability. Subsequently she was put on a therapy course along with relevant Aids & Appliances. Then she was brought into our Learning Centre and taught how to read, speak and write. In addition to that other functional and socializing skills were imparted. When she gained a reasonable standard of cognitive and other abilities our CBR worker discussed with the Government School teacher and arranged for additional coaching for her to sit for school admission test. She sat for the test and went through and got admitted to a regular school.

Now she can reasonably communicate with her parents, teachers and class mates. She can fairly follow her school teacher though with some difficulty. With ongoing therapy & coaching she will improve further. She can now walk around with her caliper which is a great achievement for girl who could not even properly shift herself in bed without help. At present she is studying in Grade 5 at a regular school.
