Success Story

Madigageri is a slum of Kurnool urban, which is adjacent to the Hundri river. Madigageri is a slum of Kurnool urban, which is adjacent to the Hundri river. In this area, dalits are living and they work as beedi makers, construction labour, market yard labour. Most of the men are alcoholics and with the meager income they gamble. Women have to look after the entire family. Sanitation facilities are very poor. No one will take care of their children. Since they are poor and engaged in daily wage, they are not able to take care of their kids.

The Madigageri community approached Chief functionary of SERUDS for support their care. Then SERUDS started a day care Centre in the month of December 2009 for 30 children in the age group of 1-7 yrs with two care takers, we have been providing nutritious food, hot mid day meal, biscuits, pre-primary education through toys, etc., to the children. SERUDS provided cooking vessels, slates, black board and other utensils for the day care centre. Children are very happy with the toys, recreation facilities and coming to this centre regularly. The care takers teach about bathing, clothing, combing as well basic literacy.

The children are coming with smiling to the centre with neat dresses, face wash, combing, teeth cleaning. From 9am to 4pm the centre runs, during this time the children play with toys, learn alphabets, games, etc., Children capacities have improved immensely on the activities of centre. Children are able to read the alphabets, identify the fruits, animal names, etc., All the children are under proper care when their parents are not with them. The behavior and character of the kids has been built positively.
