Success Story

15 women learners from one target village of Palletallapalem belong to socially and economically backward classes and fishing community. 15 women learners from one target village of Palletallapalem belong to socially and economically backward classes and fishing community. 85% of women in that village are illiterate and 10% are dropouts from 1-3rd classes. They are mainly fish vendors, fish workers and agricultural labourers. They are ignorant of market strategies, linkages, financial institutions and government schemes for women. Even though they are living in a disaster prone area they do not have insurance for their crafts, gears, livestock or life insurance. Mrs. Karre Nagalaksmi, age 32 is an illiterate fisherwoman, having 3 children. Through motivation camps of CRASA she realized the need and importance of her education which helped her take care of her family and educate her children.

CRASA is conducting an adult literacy center for 15 women. We have appointed a teacher to conduct the literacy classes. Classes are conducted every day from 7 pm to 9pm at the community center. Within three months the women are able to read letters and write sentences. Mrs. Karre Nagalaksmi joined the literacy center and learnt to read and write within 3 months.

After completion of three months of learning, the women are able to read and write as well as do calculations. They can use the education in their day to day life activities for income generation activities. They now have a better existence and recognize the importance of educating their children. Mrs. Karre Nagalaksmi is now able to verify her childrens progress cards and monitor their studies.
