Success Story

Our objective of spreading awareness on disabilities and to manage the disabled took us to rural areas outside Bangalore city. Our objective of spreading awareness on disabilities and to manage the disabled took us to rural areas outside Bangalore city. We came across several instances where disabled persons including children are neglected and deprived of even the minimal help that they require to help them with their health and living conditions. In short, we found them to be living without any happiness in their lives, just waiting for death to claim them. These people needed someone to whom they can talk to, share their pains and troubles and get relief from their disabled condition.

By now we were very confident of the progress made by the disabled children in our own centre and the methodology in achieving it. So we first started counseling the parents and after some time gradually started working with their disabled family member. We were able to teach them about cleanliness, and hygiene, importance of grooming, proper eating, etc. We also started exercise and therapy sessions. We found the disabled persons responding with great interest. Seeing the changes the parents started paying more attention to the welfare of their disabled family member.

In a short period of three months we were able to reach out to several disabled people in Kolar and KGF Towns and villages in Mandya District. The changes in the life of each disabled person was very much evident. They waited eagerly for our visits and the time we spend with them. Although they are disabled they still are able to communicate with us and share their happiness through their smiles. The parents too have become more co-operative and are willing to trust them to our care. We were able to get Disability Identification cards for several children which help them to travel on concessional fares by train and bus. The parents are much relieved and feel that their child is much happier now than before. We feel we have succeeded in our aim of bringing joy in to the lives of their disabled family members.
