Success Story

Kathalpura, in district Sonipat of Haryana is a backward area, having a population of 2000 people, who are primarily farmers. Kathalpura, in district Sonipat of Haryana is a backward area, having a population of 2000 people, who are primarily farmers. As the area is underserved, and the people are quite poor, SCEH partnered with Punjab Kesri Vridh Club, & planned to hold an eye screening camp to identify cataract patients and then treat them by bringing them to the hospital.

Did pre-camp publicity and informed the community about the date/venue and time of the proposed Cataract screening camp for over 40 people having vision problems and suspected to have cataracts. The SCEH team comprised of 2 optometrists, 2 vision technicians, 1 nurse, 1 coordinator and 1 driver. About 150 people were screened, out of which 89 underwent a detailed eye examination. While 25 surgeries were identified, others were given advice and prescribed eye drops if required.

All the identified patients with cataract were given fixed dates on which they would be taken to the hospital in Delhi for their surgeries, and counseled about the need to check their general fitness before the surgery. Once found fit, they would be operated for cataract and then left back in the hospital vehicle.
