Success Story

Kutumba has a facility which can accommodate about 30 residents Kutumba has a facility which can accommodate about 30 residents. There is a large kitchen with dining space. Breakfast is between 7.30 and 8a.m. Our children carry a packed lunch to school and their tea is at 5.30p.m. This is followed by dinner at 8.30p.m. Arjun, a resident was found few years ago by an auto driver working long hours in a scooter garage. He had no food, proper clothing or shelter. He had no education and was an orphan child of 9 years with severe polio

Kutumba accepted Arjun and gave nutrition and care. It was stunning to see his growth and improvement. Arjun started reading by himself and was confident enough to sit for his X grade public exam. The meals are provided keeping in mind that these children, a few of them in their adolescent years. The meals are simple, wholesome including a high protein drink made of lentils and pulses. The children help in the preparation and are given a limited choice within the prescribed menu.

The children very often when they come to us have a mal nourished look about them and find it difficult to conform to the wholesome diet very often even refusing a high protein diet. However within a short time they conform to the rules and even begin to enjoy the meals. We believe this is also a training ground for their future family life. Today it is wonderful to see a very confident Arjun managing two telephone booths and during his stay with us he was selected by Chrysallis a Theatre company to compere as well as perform in their plays
