Success Story

A small wetland/ lake near Kokalli village was silted up without storage capacity thus resulting in acute shortage of drinking water resource around the village. Depletion and degradation of water resources in the village had gone virtually unnoticed.

TRDC-PARYAVARAN project helped few poor families who were doing farming nearby motivating them to take up the cause of water conservation and promoted a wetland with their participation. They actively participated in rejuvenating the pond with the contribution from individual donations made via Giveindia website at a cost of Rs.28600

Now the village wetland / pond regularly fills up during monsoon season, recharges groundwater system, provides drinking water for cattle and wildlife population and also irrigation water for near by paddy fields. It fills almost 9-10 times during monsoon and water gets percolated to the ground and enhance the village ecosystem. These families are also happy this year that they got good crops because of water storage in the pond during monsoon and cropping season.
