Ashok Das of village Ashapur, Maheswara, District, South 24 Parganas was a very poor agricultural worker. He has no cultivable land of his own. All his family members worked hard to scratch out a living including his children who could not go to school.

In 2006, Bani Mandir enrolled his youngest daughter who was about 5 years old in school. The same year, Ashok was given a cycle rickshaw through the Bani Mandir Income generation programme.

Ashok started earning Rs.100 per day. In due course he started trading in Rice and food grains, where all the other members of his family helped. Now the family is better off, all the children are in school and look forward to a bright future.
